Coronavirus (Covid-19) update - Club closed

The Lansdown Club is now closed, please see the below letter from our Chairman

As you will no doubt have heard in today’s daily news conference, the UK Prime Minister has announced further restrictions due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic. The UK government is now telling all clubs, bars, cafés gyms and leisure centres to close their doors to customers until further notice. It is no longer voluntary advice. As such we have taken the decision, with a heavy heart to close the club in line with this advice.

First and foremost we are a members club, and whilst the coming weeks are going to be very challenging for us all to live through, we must remember that we are all in this together. Lansdown is a wonderful club that I am sure each of you will miss as much as I will whilst it remains shut. Not just for the exercise, but for all the friendships, laughs and just pure escapism from everyday life that it provides. I know that by sticking together we will come through this just as strong and resume where we left off, whenever that is.

We have an extremely hard working team of staff at the club who are part of the Lansdown family, and I feel that we have a responsibility to look after them as best we can during these times. The chancellor has announced a range of financial measures to support businesses operating in our industry and we also have insurance policies in place which down the line may well provide us with some relief but for now we don’t know the specifics. No-one knows for sure when the club will re-open but for now I implore all of you who are paying your subscriptions by direct debit to continue to do so, if you are able to. This will best help us to continue to support our staff and ensure that the club is ready to resume full service on day one when the restrictions are lifted. I can say that any monies that we are able to recoup through insurance or government assistance will go directly back to the members in some form.

I wish you all well, stay safe, and I very much look forward to seeing you back on the courts and croquet lawn to resume where we left off when we’re allowed to do so.

All the best
