Tennis Winter Leagues

A busy november!

The 1st team have played 2 matches and won both. The team of Nicola Maddox, Fiona Gillison, Joe Partridge, and Rod Valentine had a fine 6 points to 4 victory at David Lloyd Westbury, where the fast indoor carpets normally favour the home team. We lost the mens doubles in 3 sets and won the ladies doubles in 2. It was honours even in the mixed.

The following weekend saw another 6-4 victory at home vs Redland Green. Joe was unable to play so father Simon stepped in to play his first Winter League match for some years. Claire Sedcole replaced Fiona. Both mens and ladies doubles were lost so the situation didn’t look good at half-time. However Nicola and Simon won 6-4 6-3 and Claire and Rod won 6-2 6-3 in their respective matches to turn things around.

The second team have also played two matches during November, both were 8-2 losses at home to Clifton and the Knowle. The result in the Knowle match could certainly have gone the other way. It was 1 rubber each after the mens and ladies doubles. Jeremy Labram and Marjan van Gelderen lost the third set of their mixed by 7-5, and Chris Bannister and Emma Massey lost their 3rd set 7-6 with Knowle luckily getting a net cord on match point. Such is tennis!

The Vets team have had a successful month, winning all 3 matches played. A 6-4 victory at Cleeve was followed up by a 10-0 at Fry (Keynsham). After 4 sucessive away matches it was time for a home match, which resulted in an 8-2 victory over Clifton. This match saw a successful return to League action for Pete Harrison after a lengthy spell away from the tennis court with a shoulder injury.
