Welcome to the Lansdown Club - we have wonderful facilities providing the opportunity to play Tennis, Squash, Racketball and Croquet in lovely surroundings
Lansdown enter men’s, ladies, mixed, junior and senior tennis teams in a variety of local and national leagues.
Avon League
We typically enter 4 men’s and 2 ladies teams in the Summer League which runs from May to July on Friday evenings. Matches consist of 4 players per team, with two doubles matches for each pair, best of 3 sets.
The Winter league runs from October to March with matches usually being played on Sunday mornings. We typically enter 2 teams, each consisting of 2 men & 2 ladies, playing a single-sex doubles and then one mixed match, best of 3 sets.
Chippenham & District aka Wiltshire League
As Lansdown Club sits on the borders of Somerset and Wiltshire we are also able to take part in the Chippenham & District League, colloquially known as the Wiltshire League.
We typically enter 3 ladies teams in the Summer league which runs from April to August with fixtures usually played on a Wednesday evening. Matches consist of 4 players per team, with two doubles matches for each pair, playing 2 sets per match.
National League
The LTA National League is what was previously known as Aegon Team Tennis and involves teams competing at either a county, regional or national level, offering a very high standard of competitive match play. We usually only take part in the Summer League which runs from April to June – teams consist of up to 6 players with 4 singles and 2 doubles being played per match. We typically enter a Men’s Regional team and a Ladies County team.
National Premier League
We also take part in the NPL dependent on player availability. This is a high-level, indoor league competing against other clubs in the South West initially, with a progression to National Finals if successful. Matches consist of 4 players per team, with two doubles matches for each pair, best of 3 sets. As we do not have indoor courts, our home matches are played at an alternative local indoor venue. We typically only enter a Men’s NPL team, in the South West division. All participating teams are guaranteed entry into the following year’s event unless they state otherwise – entries need to be confirmed by Aug/Sept, with team players being nominated by early November.
Team Training
We run different summer & winter sessions to cater for the different teams we run – single-sex Summer training (usually on Mondays evenings April-July, Women 6.30-8pm and Men 8-9.30pm) and mixed-sex Winter matchplay sessions.
The playing standard for Teams is generally in the 4.0 – 5.5 range of the USTA NTRP ratings. Any Rackets member keen to get involved is invited to contact a relevant team captain to discuss more – you can find team details in the Team Training Google sheet, link available on our members website under Useful Links (login required).
